Introduction

These proposed systems are located in the United States, Asia, Far East, Middle East, Africa, and Europe.  This planning work was performed for municipalities and other government clients, resort owners, system suppliers, private developers, and other private clients.  The system planning work included technology assessment & selection, conceptual and preliminary designs, route selection, plan & profile for alignments, system network capacity analysis, station and maintenance facility location selection, alternatives analysis, value engineering, life cycle cost estimation, feasibility reports, and preparation of presentations which included renderings, simulations and animations of proposed projects.  Our extensive People Mover and Monorail system planning experience includes a wide range of transit technologies for passengers and freight including monorail, maglev, air levitated, air propelled, cable supported, cable drawn, and small shuttles. We have also worked in a variety of site conditions, including city centers, high density city areas, lower density urban and rural areas, environmentally sensitive areas, historical areas, religious sites, national parks, obstacle crossings including over bays and inlets, river crossings, canyon crossings, freeway crossings, island access and intra-island transportation, universities, private resort developments, medical centers, shopping centers, industrial areas, shipping ports, airports, test tracks, theme parks and ski areas.

 

Istanbul Golden Horn People Mover

LG Performed site inspections of alignment and station sites.  Completed system planning including technology assessment, conceptual design, route selection, network capacity analysis, station and maintenance facility location selection, detailed renderings and animation of a vehicle approaching a station with passenger loading and vehicle departing the station, alternatives analysis for various alignments and major structure spans, value engineering to select vehicle sizes and guideway spans, and life cycle cost estimation.  This system is to be used to relieve congestion in a high traffic area near the city center and mosque, and to provide connections to the existing Light Rail and Subway systems.

Istanbul Palace People Mover

The Lamoreaux Group performed site inspections of alignment and station sites.  Completed system planning including technology assessment, conceptual design, analysis of steep grades for applicability to the technology selected, route selection, network capacity analysis, station and maintenance facility location selection, detailed renderings and animation of a vehicle approaching a station and departing the station, alternatives analysis for various alignments and major structure spans, value engineering to select vehicle sizes and guideway spans, and life cycle cost estimation.  This system is to be used to relieve congestion in a popular tourism area adjacent to the Bosphorous River and Istanbul Palace.

Swinoujscie Poland Shuttle Transit System

Performed site inspections of alignment aand station sites, including integration with existing buildings and structures.  This transit system will connect lodging, business, convention, and national park facilities to ease traffic congestion in this resort area near the northern border of South Korea.

Chongqing Main Line Transit System

Assessed technology applicability, completed system planning, conceptual design, route selection, digitizing contour information for land and buildings, plan and profile, network capacity analysis, station and maintenance facility location selection, alternatives analysis of alignments and associated costs, value engineering to determine optimum vehicle size, column spacing, and alignment route, life cycle cost estimation and assistance in preparing the feasibility reports with ENFI Engineeringa from Beijing.  Visited the project site multiple times to investigate various design options, inspect potential station sites, and made two, week long presentations to the City of Chongqing regarding technology options and alignment alternatives.  This transit system will connect the main peninsula in the city center of Chongqing, across the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers to north and south areas of this city of 32 million people.  The project is associated with population being relocated to the city of Chongqing from the Three Gorges area of the Yangtze river, due to construction of the Yangtze river dam project.  The purpose of the project is to ease congestion in the city bus systems.

Chongqing Airport People Mover

Visited the project site multiple times to investigate various design options.  This system will connect the Chongqing Main Line Transit system just west of the downtown area, the Chongqing Chaotianmen Transit system at the city center, and the airport north of the city.  The project is associated with population being relocated to the city of Chongqing from the Three Gorges area of the Yangtze river, due to construction of the Yangtze river dam project.

Wuling Yuan/Jang Jie Je Resort People Mover
aaAssessed technology use at this People’s Republic of China National Park site near the city of Dayong (similar to Zions National Park in the United States), visited the site and hiked the alignment and visited station locations, completed system planning, conceptual design, route selection, digitized topographic information, prepared plan and profile design for a number of alternate alignments, network capacity analysis, station and maintenance facility location selection, alternatives analysis, value engineering to select vehicle type and size, life cycle cost estimation and feasibility report for installing a people mover system at this site.  A number of roads have washed out in the area including the main highway to reach the park, and the government is looking for alternatives including a people mover to resolve not only these difficult environmental conditions, but also to ease traffic, parking, and trail use congestion in the park.

Wuxi Transit Systeam

Performed site inspections of the alignment, station sites, and maintenance facility site.  Completed system planning, conceptual design, route selection, alignment layout including interfaces with existing streets and buildings, network capacity analysis, station and maintenance facility location selection, alternatives analysis, value engineering, life cycle cost estimation and feasibility reports. Completed cross section drawingss of downtown street interfaces, particularly for column locations.  This system connects urban areas to the city center, as well as providing a connection in phase II to a lake and high traffic tourism area.  Wuxi is an entertainment area for the residents of Shanghai, because of the lakes, mountains, and themed attractions.

Big Bear People Mover

Performed system planning in coordination with BRW, including conceptual and preliminary designs, route selection, plan & profile, network capacity analysis, station and maintenance facility location selection, detailed renderings and animations, alternatives analysis for 27 different alignments, vaalue engineering to determine column spacing and vehicle sizes, life cycle cost estimation and feasibility reports. Performed site inspections of alignment, station sites and maintenance facility.  Digitized topographic information in addition to obtaining digital elevation model data, and prepared digital terrain model for the proposed alignments.  Prepared presentation materials and assisted with the team presentation to the City of Big Bear.  This system is to connect San Bernadino with the ski resort area of Big Bear.

Milwuakee Medical Center People Mover

aCompleted system planning including technology assessment and selection, conceptual and preliminary designs, route selection, plan & profile, network capacity analysis, station and maintenance facility location selection, alternatives analysis, value engineering, life cycle cost estimation, and prepared a feasibility.  Performed site inspections of alignment and station sites, and verified interfaces with existing medical buildings.  The alignment included a freeway crossing, connecting remote parking areas, retail and commercial areas, with the geographically separated buildings of the medical facility.

Aerobus People Mover Test Track

aLG staff completed system planning, preliminary design, route selection, alignment layout, network capacity analysis, station and maintenance facility location selection, alternatives analysis, value engineering to determine the length and track configuration, and estimate of the capital cost of construction. Completed preliminary design of the cable and fixed guideway, station, maintenance facility and switching structures.  Prepared station and maintenance facility drawings.  Integrated a freight loading facility and vehicles, with passenger station and facilities. Managed final design of the vehicle car body by Intermountain Design and preliminary design of the bogies and chassis by APCO Technologies, including preparing detailed design specifications and design criteria.  The vehicle design included car body modules, bogies, chassis, lighting, doors and door openers, FRP shell, flooring, windows, interior finishes and seating.  Completed preliminary design of electrical and electronic systems, including vehicle HVAC system, traction drives and controller, on board PLCs and operator control console, vehicle ancillary electrical systems, and vehicle pantograph.  Completed preliminary design of the overhead contact system, and power substation.  Completed preliminary design of the maintenance and recovery vehicle, and freight vehicle, including bogies, chassis, operator cab, traction drives and controls, and vehicle hydraulic and electrical ancillary systems.  Completed computer renderings, simulation and animation of passenger and freight vehicles with guideway and station.

Insul-8 People Mover Test Track

LG completed system planning, vehicle and guideway design, and prepared.  Vehicle design included adapting an existing vehicle to operate on the system, selection of traction drives and controls, and design of a communications based vehicle control system.  Guideway design included plan and profile, super-elevation design, structure and connections design, columns and switching structure.  We completed the vehicle velocity and acceleration profile, including triaxial passenger accelerations.

Downtown People Mover - Las Vegas

LG staff completed final alignment design verification using our proprietary computer programs for this guideway with spiral curves. Provided construction management services including guideway inspections at the Texas fabrication facility, and quality control during erection using high-precision, triangulated surveying methods to properly locate beams over columns, and accurately align beam to beam connections. Performed site inspections of alignment and station sites.  Magnetic Transit of America was purchased by Westinghouse, which stopped further project construction.

Hershey Park Monorail Rehabilitation

aCompleted cost estimates to replace the aging monorail trains installed in 1968. The vehicle cost estimate included car body modules, bogies, chassis, lighting, doors and door openers, FRP shell, flooring, interior finishes and seating, traction drives and controller, on board PLCs and operator control console, and vehicle ancillary electrical systems.
